Season's Greetings From Martial Arts Bulletin
Saturday, December 24th, 2005Christmas Deliveries of Martial Arts Karate Clothing
Wednesday, December 21st, 2005By now, it would be too late to ship orders of any martial arts karate clothing from Free Spirit Activewear out in time for Christmas deliveries. Delivery standards set by Canada Post and the US Postal Service were the reasons why we had previously suggested December 2 as the final date to get in orders for our martial arts t shirts or other karate shirts. Of course we are still taking orders but the usual 5 to 12 business day delivery standard for North America destinations should be kept in mind.
Van Damme Wants To Do K-1 Kickboxing?
Friday, December 16th, 2005Now there’s talk that Jean-Claude Van Damme wants to do K-1 kickboxing. If this is indeed true, I can’t understand why he would even consider such a thing. First there’s the age factor as most guys who compete in K-1 kickboxing or any mixed martial arts fighting event are quite young. It might be just a publicity stunt for his dwindling film career now or an attempt to gain some respect from the martial arts community.

Bruce Lee, the Greatest Martial Arts Action Hero
Thursday, December 8th, 2005I have finally written a short tribute article about Bruce Lee who is perhaps the greatest martial artist action hero ever. His impact on martial arts is undeniably huge, even over 30 years after his passing. His movies like Enter the Dragon, the Chinese Connection and the Way of the Dragon got me hooked in martial arts in the first place. Then I realized over the years that Bruce Lee has had an even bigger influence on me than I originally thought. He made me proud of who I am and helped give me the confidence to push ahead to achieve my goals. I’m sure that countless other individuals, Asian and non-Asian, martial artists and non martial artists alike would feel the same way. So here’s the article at Bruce Lee, the Greatest Martial Arts Action Hero.

Clint Cora Wins NASKA World Title for 40-49 Mens Black Belt Forms
Monday, December 5th, 2005Clint Cora, owner of Free Spirit Activewear, has won the NASKA World Title for 40-49 year old mens black belt forms for 2005. The results are at the NASKA 2005 ratings list. Although the final results will be published in January of 2006, there are no more world circuit events for NASKA this year so the ratings as they stand will be the final results. This is the first NASKA world title Clint has ever won. He has previously won world titles in the NBL and WSKF circuits.
The NASKA win is extra special as he says, “I’ve always wanted to win a NASKA World Title since it is the most prestigious open karate martial arts circuit around. It is also the most established one where many martial arts legends have had victories before.”
Clint’s new website Free Spirit Activewear, specializes in premium martial arts and other specialty sports activewear. He also owns another website called Free Spirit Gallery which specializes in Eskimo Inuit art and Northwest Indian art.
Hard Style and Soft Style Martial Arts
Friday, December 2nd, 2005Sometimes we come across the terms hard style and soft style in martial arts. These terms were created to classify martial arts into two main categories. Hard styles include karate and tae kwon do while soft styles include kung fu and wushu. Interestingly enough, these are North American developed terminology as a result of open martial arts competitions. A new article defines the terms hard styles and soft styles in martial arts as well as the background in their development. This article is at What Are Hard Style and Soft Style Martial Arts?
To see a new line of t-shirts for both hard stylists and soft stylists, see Martial Arts Clothing.
NASKA World Karate Weapons Champion Charged
Thursday, December 1st, 2005Like many others in the sports martial arts community, I was shocked to hear about Jonathan Boyd being arrested and charged for child molestation. I’ve known Jonathan on the karate tournament circuit for several years ever since he was a junior. I actually judged him in his early competition days. He has been the top karate weapons competitor for a number of years now. He has always been very polite to me everytime he met up with me at a tournament. Coming from his background with Dewey Earwood’s karate studio in Columbia, South Carolina, I’m very surprised about the recent events regarding his case. Dewey’s group is quite religious and I would have thought that Jonathan would be the last person to be ever involved in something like this. The printed story on his arrest is at one of Columbia’s local media at the Ledger-Enquirer. I certainly hope that Jonathan is innocent but even if he is, it will be very difficult for him to pick up his career in martial arts again.
In the meantime, parents and martial arts instructors should do everything they can to protect the martial arts children (and all other children) from potentially dangerous situations.
