Toastmasters Self Defense Seminar

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

For one of my final Toastmasters speeches in the Montreal area, I did an introduction to self defense speech for the Professional Seminar project from the Professional Speaker advanced manual. This was one of the easiest Toastmasters speeches I’ve even done and one of the few I didn’t write on paper ahead of time. Since I’ve been teaching self defense seminars for so many years, I knew the material well and could ab lib through the speech naturally. The only challenge was to decide which points to cover from my usual 3 to 4 hour self defense seminar and fit it into a 15 to 20 minute speech. The speech went well and was voted best one for the evening. There was even a request for a question and answer period by the other members of the Toastmasters club.

I’m doing one more Toastmasters speech before leaving Montreal and it will be a repeat of my motivational speech which features a demo of my bo staff. I’ll be moving my inventory of martial arts clothing to Ontario in July.

Hoping To Reshoot Karate Bo Video

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

I’m just waiting for the right day to reshoot my karate bo video. The best time in terms of sun direction outdoors at the location I want to shoot at is in the early afternoon. Unfortunately, it’s also quite hot in the day recently so I want to see if there will be a slightly cooler day, maybe even with a breeze.

The present set of videos are at Martial Arts Videos and they will all be reshot at some point with better forms.

German WKA Team Also Must Stay At Designated Hotels

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Looks like the German WKA team also must stay in designated hotels in order to compete in the WKA world karate championships in Karlsruhe, Germany. At least one German competitor commented that he would have been able to stay at a friend’s place right in Karlsruhe for free but the WKA regulations state that all team members must pay to stay at the team hotel. I wonder how many good competitors worldwide will be missing this competition because of cost restrictions. It’s really too bad.

For something more affordable, check out karate t-shirts.
