For one of my final Toastmasters speeches in the Montreal area, I did an introduction to self defense speech for the Professional Seminar project from the Professional Speaker advanced manual. This was one of the easiest Toastmasters speeches I’ve even done and one of the few I didn’t write on paper ahead of time. Since I’ve been teaching self defense seminars for so many years, I knew the material well and could ab lib through the speech naturally. The only challenge was to decide which points to cover from my usual 3 to 4 hour self defense seminar and fit it into a 15 to 20 minute speech. The speech went well and was voted best one for the evening. There was even a request for a question and answer period by the other members of the Toastmasters club.
I’m doing one more Toastmasters speech before leaving Montreal and it will be a repeat of my motivational speech which features a demo of my bo staff. I’ll be moving my inventory of martial arts clothing to Ontario in July.
