Karate Champion Becomes A Ski Instructor

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

I often talk about expanding or getting out of your comfort zone during my motivational talks. I do practise what I preach and I will share a recent example. I’ve been trying to get from a Level 1 certified ski instructor to a Level 2 for many years. In doing so, I had to ski in ways that were not within my usual comfort zone in skiing. This included skiing on steep double black diamond slopes as well as doing short radius turns.

So I made a commitment to train twice per week this winter and get out of my comfort zone by doing a lot of short radius turns on all sorts of terrain including steep double black diamond hills. I was not successful in passing my Level 2 course last winter but with committed regular training this winter, I was successful in passing the retest.

Looking back now as a new Level 2 instructor, I knew that I had to constantly expand my comfort zone on the ski slopes so that I became comfortable with short radius turns and steep slopes. This is true with any goals you want to achieve. So with that in mind, check out my general article on expanding your comfort zone.

Two Piece Karate Bo Staff

Monday, February 9th, 2009

I ordered a two piece karate bo staff and it was delivered late last week. Since I do use my bo staff for my motivational keynote speech, instead of having to carry a long bo around with me all the time, I was looking for a better alternative. This is especially true for any future speaking engagements that I do which involve getting on an airplane. I’ve had to pack my bo staffs in a special oversize container for travel and sometimes, it hasn’t arrived at my destination on time.

Of course, I don’t want this anxiety when I travel to do my motivational keynote speeches so this is why I chose to order a two piece bo which can be packed in a standard size suitcase when the pieces are apart. I won’t have to bother with the oversize container that I have used for so many years. Interestingly enough, I’ll probably use this two piece bo only for motivational keynote speeches as I’ll stick to my regular bo staffs for competition.

Stands Apart From Other Motivational Books

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Here’s what Shan Dube, a social worker from Vancouver, says about sport karate champion Clint Cora’s new motivational book The Life Champion In You;

“Clint Cora’s book, The Life Champion In You, is an example of the resiliency of the human spirit. Using the tragedies of his life, he demonstrates that anyone can rise above their challenges and create a successful life. He offers practical advice to help people achieve their goals and dreams. Clint’s book stands apart from other motivational books because of its personal and realistic approach. It is easy to read and written for anyone wanting to put their dreams into action. I would highly recommend this book because it is inspiring and motivating.

Karate World Champion Hopefully To Tackle Inuit Teen Suicides

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

The occurence of Inuit teen suicides is unfortunately quite high and this is definitely an issue that government agencies are trying to tackle. Karate world champion Clint Cora is currently in initial discussions with one such person at one of these agencies on possibly doing some talks up in the Arctic to motivate the Inuit teens to make better choices in life. The one block of course is the travel expenses. If a number of groups up north including schools, colleges and especially the local government up there, could band together to fund such a trip, Clint would be willing to go up north, say in Iqaluit, to do a few inspirational talks for free. This issue is important enough to do such a project.
