Karate World Champion Accepting Facebook Friends

Karate World Champion Clint Cora is accepting all new Facebook friends as he had jumped on the social media bandwagon.  In addition to being a martial artist, Clint Cora is also a motivational speaker and author so if you want continued motivation and inspiration for your own martial arts training, get on his Motivation Facebook page as well.

So far, most of his Facebook friends are in fact not martial artists so Clint would love to change that by expanding his social media reach to the martial arts world no matter what styles you train in.  It doesn’t matter if you train in styles of karate, taekwondo, kung fu, wushu, muay thai, mma, judo, kenpo … it doesn’t matter.

There is a lot of correlation between martial arts and motivation which is why Clint has moved over to the Facebook community to help others with their goals in life.  You can join Clint’s community on Facebook via two of his pages there;

Clint Cora Personal Facebook Page

Clint Cora Motivation Facebook Page

Clint Cora invites you to check out both.  Add him as a friend at his personal page and hit the Like button at this Motivation page.  You will see a lot of motivational material at his Motivation page daily.

Top 50 Best Martial Arts Blogs

#martialarts #karate #kungfu #taekwondo #ufc #mma

My martial arts blog has just been listed as one of the top 50 best martial arts blogs!  See the complete list which is divided into various categories at Best Martial Arts Blogs.

Of course, for lots of more martial arts related articles and information, see my Martial Arts Articles Online website.  That is where you will see the bulk of the information I put out on martial arts related content.

For more information on my motivational topics including achieving success in life, I have other websites that fit this bill nicely.  In fact, these particular topics are even more active at my other website than my martial arts ones.

Go check them out at my main Clint Cora Motivational Speaker website where there are lots of articles, videos and even a World Champion Personal Growth Guide that you can download for free.  There is also an associated motivation blog there as well.

Got My Karate Bo Staff Form Back

Monday, July 19th, 2010

#martialarts #karate  – Okay, I got my karate bo staff form back after two training sessions following a long layoff from the winter and spring.  Actually, I now remember two slightly different versions of the form I did before the winter.  One includes a certain sequence while the other version skips it.

I wasn’t sure if this additional sequence was going to look any good so the only way is to video the form with and without it to see which would be better.  But I’m pretty happy that the form came back into my memory after two sessions.  I was a bit disappointed during the first training session because I had forgotten much of the form since I didn’t perform the full form at all during the winter and spring.

Since both possible versions of my karate bo staff form are so similar, I’m going to keep training it for a few weeks before the video just to get stronger with the entire form again.  I’m using my heaviery bo staffs to help build up the power again too rather than my competition bo staffs which are very light.

Perhaps later on in the fall, I will finally be able to video the present form to replace an old bo form I have on YouTube.   If you see a guy with a red top gi and black pants, that’s me.  That form has been replaced by my present one which is more streamlined and powerful.

I’ve had requests at my live motivational talks to perform more of my karate bo staff since I only do a few moves.  I’m not sure if I’m going to do this because I’m usually in my business suits.  I do show an introduction video which has parts of my bo staff form at the beginning of many of these live talks.

Forgot My Karate Bo Staff Form!

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

#martialarts #karate #taekwondo #kungfu #mma #ufc

It’s kind of funny because now that I’m no longer competing in karate, I spent the entire winter focused on snow skiing.  The only karate bo staff moves I’ve been doing for the last six months were the parts I use during my live motivational talks.  I also include them in my diversity talks as well but apart from those moves, I haven’t been doing my entire weapons form at all.

Well, I decided to pick up my karate bo staff to do my complete form the other day and I actually had trouble remembering some of the parts from my form!  It’s been awhile.  Same thing with my Chinese staff form too.  Although I remember the individual techniques and they were still executed pretty good, I just didn’t remember the actual sequences they were in.

By the end of the workout, I got some type of workable weapons form back but I wasn’t sure if it was exactly the way I left it before the winter.  I’ll need a few more training sessions to get comfortable with the sequences again and then video what I’ve got to see how the form looks.  I don’t think I’ll have any problems bringing back at least a decent karate bo staff form I can perform anytime.

To see the brief moves that I actually did do all winter and spring, I do them not only in my live talks but also did them for an episode of my Clint Cora Motivational WebTV where I used my karate bo staff as a teaching tool for a principle of achieving life success.  Check it out as many probably didn’t realize that a martial arts weapon can be used to illustrate such concepts.

Martial Arts Is For Life

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

#martialarts #karate #kungfu #taekwondo #mma #ufc

Although I mentioned yesterday that it was very likely that I will completely retire from martial arts competition after a very long and fulfilling competitive career, I certainly won’t stop doing martial arts.  For me, martial arts is for life, a ‘lifer’ as we could say.

I won’t be training at the same intense level as I would for competition and will do only the activities that I actually enjoy doing which incidentally will still be quite similar to what I’ve been doing all along during the last couple years of competition.

That is, I’ll still do both my bo staff and Chinese weapons forms.  I may dabble with swords for interest as well.  As for empty hand forms, I’ll probably just do my current open Chinese form and one or two traditional Japanese karate katas.  These will be the only forms I do but having said that, I will probably add on a tai chi form as well.

I’ve done tai chi in the past but really haven’t stuck with it but now that I’m pretty well in competition retirement, I would like to do more tai chi especially for health purposes.

Of course, I believe that it’s important to review basic self defense techniques on a regular basis too.  I would like to purchase one of those target dummies for this purpose.

So it is entirely possible to to keep on doing martial arts for life, maybe not at the same intensity and maybe some of the actual activities might be different but that’s okay.  I’m doing what I enjoy and there are still so many benefits to martial arts.

I believe in this so much that I actually designed martial arts t-shirts called Martial Arts For Life.  To see details and variations of this t-shirt, just click on the graphic below or the previous link.

Mentally Ready To Retire From Martial Arts Competition

Monday, July 5th, 2010

#martialarts #karate #kungfu #mma #mixedmartialarts #ufc #taekwondo

I never thought that I would actually feel like this.  Even though I haven’t competed in martial arts for the last two years since I’ve been focusing on my speaking career, there was always the intention to possibly return to competition especially since the big circuit NASKA has a division for 50 and over.  I’m not at that age group yet but of course I will get there.

However, as I write this post, I’m actually feeling mentally ready to retire.  There are all those hassles of competition including travel and waiting around for your divisions to run, etc.  I’ve certainly had my fill of those over the years.  As for the trophies and awards, I don’t want anymore since I have enough of these dust collectors — see my martial arts background.

I do admit that I would still get a kick out of performing martial arts in front of an audience and doing well.  However, I’m getting a bigger kick out of speaking especially when I know that my motivational speeches are making a positive impact on people in my audiences.  Plus speaking in front of audiences also pays better than martial arts competition!

I never thought that I would tire of performing martial arts but what has happened is that I found something else that is giving me an even better return both financially and mentally in regards to personal satisfaction.  I will still do martial arts as part of my own fitness as I’m a lifer.  I will also still include martial arts in my speaking presentations and Motivational WebTV shows.  Perhaps that type of inclusion is enough.

Now having said all that, if there’s a chance to represent Canada on the national team again AND if a world event is in an interesting place I would really want to visit, then I may entertain martial arts competition again but only if those conditions are right.  Otherwise, I don’t really see myself back to compete on a regular basis anymore.
