Got My Karate Bo Staff Form Back

#martialarts #karate  – Okay, I got my karate bo staff form back after two training sessions following a long layoff from the winter and spring.  Actually, I now remember two slightly different versions of the form I did before the winter.  One includes a certain sequence while the other version skips it.

I wasn’t sure if this additional sequence was going to look any good so the only way is to video the form with and without it to see which would be better.  But I’m pretty happy that the form came back into my memory after two sessions.  I was a bit disappointed during the first training session because I had forgotten much of the form since I didn’t perform the full form at all during the winter and spring.

Since both possible versions of my karate bo staff form are so similar, I’m going to keep training it for a few weeks before the video just to get stronger with the entire form again.  I’m using my heaviery bo staffs to help build up the power again too rather than my competition bo staffs which are very light.

Perhaps later on in the fall, I will finally be able to video the present form to replace an old bo form I have on YouTube.   If you see a guy with a red top gi and black pants, that’s me.  That form has been replaced by my present one which is more streamlined and powerful.

I’ve had requests at my live motivational talks to perform more of my karate bo staff since I only do a few moves.  I’m not sure if I’m going to do this because I’m usually in my business suits.  I do show an introduction video which has parts of my bo staff form at the beginning of many of these live talks.

  1. Your post reminded me of a question I heard the other day in TKD class: Question: In traditional karate, the highest belt color one can earn is what color? – Answer: Black. Although some American choose to wear a red belt, this is not a traditional color…. :) Thanks have a great day!

Red belt in TKD in many schools is equivalent to brown belt. Some advanced black belts in karate wear a red and white belt (striped). Personally, I don’t like that look but that’s just me.

I think it would really be better if you perform the karate bo and it would be more interesting even in your business suit :) anyway, I just want to say that everything about martial arts and self defense thingy are very useful since it keeps people informed and be more alert not to let every violence happen. Thank you for being one of the advocates.

I usually do some of my bo staff moves in my business suit during live talks. Wouldn’t want to do the entire form though since a business suit can be a bit restrictive in movement. Or else I might end up ripping my suit or shirt – wouldn’t want to do that!
