The
Octagon is one place you don't want to be in without wearing your cage
fighting gloves. It is where the fighters of the MMA battle
it out surrounded by eight sides of padded metal. The fighters are
those of the extreme, no holds barred (and controversial) Mixed Martial

Although
fighters
wear cage fighting gloves to help protect against injury and to promote
safety, the ultimate rules (what few there are) call for the winner to
knock his opponent unconscious or forcing him to forfeit by
administering intolerable pain to his body. The Ultimate Fighting
Championship, or UFC, is what the extreme fighting sport is all about.
The UFC is the Mixed Martial Arts organization that has been
responsible for the surge in popularity of the sport. Two opponents
battle each other in different types of fighting arenas, and the style
of battle that is used is a mix of traditional and non traditional martial arts,
which is what makes it mixed. The original intentions of the UFC when
it began were to scour the world to find the best fighter who used the
best techniques to win a fight using unarmed combat methods. That
mission has turned into the wildly popular competitions that are taking
much of the world by storm.

Although
there were
no rules in place for the competitions when the UFC started, there are
rules in place now, and this is due to the fact that so many people
protested against mixed martial arts calling it barbaric and vulgar. As
the voices of protest grew louder, the UFC lost a lot of its fan base,
and finally made the decision to re organize everything and do a major
overhaul of the organization. It did this mainly by implementing the
use of safety gear and imposing rules to follow during the fights.

One of these rules
involved the use of safety equipment and the regulation of apparel that
was worn during the competitions. Fighters can wear helmets, mouth
guards, and special cage fighting gloves for some degree of protection
during the fights. The attire that they wear is very restricted they
wear no shoes or protective footwear of any kind, no shirts of any
kind, but they do wear specific types of MMA shorts. The protective
gear, although very light, includes those cage fighting gloves that do
several different things for the fighters. They provide intense blows
to opponents while they protect the fighters hands from serious injury
and breakage.
The

gloves that are worn are very popular, because they don't restrict
flexibility and they dont hinder good grip while they protect the
hands. They come in two different styles, open palm and closed palm.
There are different thicknesses and weights for the gloves too, and
they promote dexterity as well. For the most part, which cage fighting
gloves a fighter wears is pretty much based on his preferences, whether
they are open or closed palm, thicker or thinner.
