Weight Training For Self Defense
Strength Train For Martial Arts

Are you one of the people that think you have to lift weights and become some type of body builder in order to practice self defense? Believe it or not most people think that they have to be some type of Arnold Schwarzenegger in order to be any good at self defense. Believe me when I say this but it is not true.

I personally work out at least three times a week but by no means am I a beef head. Working out is great for you in so many situations but it will not guarantee a better tae kwon do practitioner or kung fu master, plain and simple.

But if you are one of those people that need a little bit of encouragement to get started exercising then here you go. I will give you a few tips you can follow that will guarantee a decent form all while staying sleek and slim. PLEASE NOTE: I am not a dietician or doctor. What I recommend is my opinion and has worked for me and several friends and family members. Consult your doctor before doing any type of weight training or exercise. Let's get started.

You probably think there is some type of magic formula for getting the lean buff body you want, not true. Simply put, all you have to do to get in shape is work out and watch what you eat. Although I would like to, I am not going to get into diet here.

Now if you're a police officer or just your average Joe wouldn't it be nice to not have to worry about whipping out your pepper spray due to the fact that you might run out of breath if you enter an altercation? Although pepper spray and self defense items are nice, defending yourself is even better because essentially you can carry your "self defense" with you at all times.

OK back to the meat and potatoes of what we were talking about. If you want to work out here are three different tips you should keep in mind. First, always make sure you stick to a strict workout regimen. If you want to work out three days a week then stick to it. I have a friend that goes with me to the gym and I feel almost accountable to him on the days we set to go to the gym. If you get a workout buddy your chances of sticking with it go up about 60%. Second make sure you always switch up your workout. What I mean by this is to always make sure you never do the same workout twice within a two week period of time. You can do this easily by adding a new machine or using a different machine in a different way.

Do what I do, look at other people around you working out and copy what they, as long as you have the ability to do so. The last and final thing to remember is when in doubt, do push-ups and pull-ups. If you can't afford a gym you can easily get into shape by doing push-ups and pull-ups. A pull up bar is fairly cheap and works out your entire upper body.

I know a guy that did nothing but push-ups and pull-ups for three weeks and put on almost 7 pounds of muscle. If he can do it so can you. Now I know this is not the end all exercise secret you thought it would be but it still works, and by the way, there is no secret exercise technique. All you have to do is stay dedicated and work hard. All the rest will fall into place.

So not matter what is going on, exercise will help you will your entire self defense needs. Just stick to your game plan, find a partner and get to work. Within weeks you will notice a difference and hopefully I will be getting an e-mail thanking me for my advice. Good luck and happy lifting!
